The Maria Mitchell Chapter, NSDAR combines the Genealogical committees into one Genealogy Committee. This committee primarily works to made educational resources available to members interested in learning more about genealogical research, supplemental applications, and leadership training and development for the Registrar Officer position.

Chapter Genealogy workshops are informal forums where any genealogical or DAR application questions can be asked. The Chapter typically hosts an Expert State Volunteer Genealogist to help answer questions. Our registrar attends and collaborates with prospective members on their applications, and would be happy to collaborate with members on supplemental applications. If you would prefer to work alone, other resources are still available.

DAR makes all sorts of resources free for genealogy! Most of them build on the foundation provided by the Genealogical Education Program (GEP). There are five classes in total. GEP I, II, III, DNA, and Registrar courses. These courses are rather pricey, but worth it.

The courses build on each other and are prerequisites for one another. If you are doing any kind of genealogical research GEP I and III will help immensely. If you are interested in applying your research skills to DAR applications and supplementals GEP II is fantastic. Good luck!

The Genealogy committee is currently looking for volunteers! If you have ideas or just want to join you are encouraged to reach out to the Chapter Regent.
