Responsibilities as per National [1]

The Regent will use the National Society Committees and programs to form the basis of the chapter work. Chapter work should stress objectives of the society: to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism.

The Regent’s will ensure Chapter Chair’s report the activities of her activities to the corresponding State Chair through the Chapter Master Questionnaire (CMR). The CMR is used by State and National for State Conferences and Continental Congress.

The Regent will prepare an order of business for each chapter meeting. Ensure they start and end on time. Be familiar with the parliamentary law, bylaws, and other rules of the chapter, state, and national society. She should also enforce rules of debate, order, and decorum within the chapter.

The Regent shall complete the Chapter Achievement Awards Form in the NIP on time. The Chapter Achievement Awards Form shall serve as a guide when planning chapter activities, contributions, programs, and service.

The Regent shall ensure dues are paid on time.

The Regent shall also complete the Chapter Credentials form for both Continental Congress and State Conference. As well as, the Chapter Officer Report.
Responsibilities as per National [3] and Chapter Bylaws

The Regent is the official representative for the chapter.

The Regent shall keep the chapter membership informed, interesting programs, and good publicity. Through imagination, preparation, organization, and cooperation.

The Regent is the chief administrative officer and it is her responsibility to see that the business of the chapter is transacted in proper order.

Additional Duties

  1. Know the duties of all officers and chairmen
  2. Know the chapter objectives and the person responsible for each task.
  3. Supervise and coordinate all committees and provide help as needed
  4. Assist officers and chairmen develop expertise in her position. Both in the chapter and in areas of the National program.

Specific Duties of Chapter Regent

  • Read and study “Duties of Every officer” page 3
  • Read chapter bylaws Article VI -Duties of Officers, section on Regent for additional specific duties.
  • Secure password to e-membership.
  • Preside at all chapter meetings and Executive Board meetings. Always have on hand.
  • Serve as chief executive officer of the chapter (RONR pg 456-457 for details)
    • reserve opinion, be fair, and follow the rules when presiding over meetings.
    • Follow administrative duties as outlined in chapter bylaws. Maria Mitchell administrative Regent duties:
      • Appoint all committees (except nominating committee)
      • appoint a parliamentarian subject to approval from the executive board
      • be ex-officio a member of all committees (except nominating committee)
  • Authenticate by signature (if needed) all acts, orders, etc.
  • Represent NSDAR in the community. Including at memorials and funerals of members and their families.
  • Represent the chapter at district, state, and national level meetings.
  • Review chapter website. Have urls and passwords.
  • send email contact information to state and national Volunteer Information Specialists chair.

Evaluate chapter’s needs and capabilities. Pick an area where improvement is needed. Pick one or two definite goals (realistic), and concentrate on those areas. Have officers and chairmen focus on the same goals.

Prepare a chapter calendar that lists tasks that should be accomplished each month. Include: National information in DAR handbook pages 200-205, list of chapter activities for the year, state and chapter meeting dates, when magazines or newsletters must be sent, deadlines for reports, contests, etc.

Requirements

  1. a member must have held membership in the chapter for at least one year. [1]

  3. Be Familiar with the National Society and its committees. [1]

Presiding at a Meeting

  1. Determine if a quorum is present (5 regular members or 3 officers)
  2. Bring Business as per agenda
  3. Recognize members to the floor
  4. Enforce rules of debate
  5. Conduct votes on all questions, determine results, and announce.
  6. Rule improper motions out of order
  7. Respond to parliamentary inquiries or points of information
  8. Conclude meeting by declaring it adjourned.
